07 Nov Van der Valk hotel ‘Het Arresthuis’ received 5-star rating
Het Arresthuis , located in Roermond, achieved a 5-star rating which was handed over by the Hotelstars Union, holder of the European Hotel Classification. It is the first Van der Valk hotel to achieve this status.
“We are proud and pleased to achieve a 5-star rating”, says Rob Polman, director at Het Arresthuis. Ever since the opening in 2011, the team at Het Arresthuis, led by Hotel Manager Rianne Balkestein, has been striving to provide a high level of quality, experience and hospitality with an accessible approach. ‘’It is also in line with the ambitions that we pursue with our restaurant Damianz, where chef Jeroen van Gansewinkel and maître Martijn Bakker are in charge”, says Polman.
Het Arresthuis is the second hotel in the province of Limburg to be awarded a 5-star rating. In the Netherlands there are 31 hotels in total that received the same rating. To receive this status the hotel needs to fulfil a demand of high criteria regarding service and supplements.
About Het Arresthuis
Het Arresthuis functioned as a jail between 1863 to 1997 and is appointed as a national monument. Between 2002 and 2007, the jail has been temporarily in use due to the lack of available cells in the Netherlands. From 2009 through 2011, Van der Valk monumentenbeheer B.V. ,in cooperation with Engelsman Architecten from Roermond, managed to transform the formally known ‘Huis van Arrest’ to a luxury boutique hotel including 40 rooms. Old elements such as the old cell doors, bars in front of the windows and the cast iron stairs can still be found in the cell block. Het Arresthuis is located in the centre of Roermond and ,with its re-use, has become a wonderful addition to the historic inner district.
About Van der Valk
The Netherlands’ oldest and largest hotel chain, Van der Valk, has more than a hundred hotels in the Netherlands but also in Belgium, Germany, France, Spain and the Dutch Antilles. During the late 1920’s the chain started as a café, located in Voorschoten, and was founded by Martinus and Rie van der Valk. Now the 4th generation is inheriting the work of the 3rd generation and in a few hotels even the 5th generation is already working. Over time, Van der Valk has increasingly focused more on quality and sustainability. Het Arresthuis is a nice consequence of this development and it is proud to be the first 5-star hotel of this unique family business.
