The challenge
Compassion Nederland is a Christian sponsorship organization dedicated to freeing children from extreme poverty in Jesus’ name. Sponsors are encouraged to be actively involved in four ways: through prayer, financial contributions, writing letters, or visiting the child. While visiting is the smallest pillar, it is also the most personal and intensive. In 2019, Compassion Nederland wanted to increase its visibility and attract more participants for its trips, especially for the journey to Ecuador in the fall. Therefore, they asked BuroSix for strategic advice to achieve this goal.
The research question
“How can Compassion Nederland increase its awareness in order to gain more participants for the upcoming trip to Ecuador in 2019?”
The solution
To begin with, we conducted a detailed target audience analysis, looking at both existing and potential supporters. In addition, we examined the key factors that influence participation in sponsor trips. Based on this research, BuroSix developed a strategic recommendation focused on three areas: strengthening engagement with the current supporter base, reaching new audiences, and growing the number of sponsors overall. We also included specific PR recommendations and practical tools for immediate use.
Message delivered successfully
The final report included actionable tools that Compassion Nederland could use right away. As a result, several suggestions were directly implemented into a sponsor satisfaction survey. Moreover, the report provided guidance to fine-tune the upcoming awareness campaign, based on the communication objectives. Practical PR tips and examples of potential collaborations were further developed in a follow-up report, supporting Compassion Nederland’s work to increase awareness and participation.
